In memory of founder,
Mary Anhaltzer 1938-2001

La Ofrenda by  Mary Anhaltzer

Mary Anhaltzer created Thirteen Moons Gallery on March 12,1999, to promote the work of contemporary art quilt artists. Mary herself was a prolific art quilter, who spent some of the happiest hours of her life working in her studio. And reading mystery novels!

Before she decided to start a gallery, Mary toured Guatemala with Katalysis Partnership. It was a profound experience for Mary. The name for Thirteen Moons Gallery comes from the Mayan calendar. The gallery's logo is the Mayan symbol for the number thirteen.

When Thirteen Moons Gallery was established, Mary made the decision to donate the profits from the gallery to Katalysis Partnership for “Bootstrap Banking,” whereby they provide loan capital and training for the Mayan people of Guatemala, mostly women, who want to pull themselves up by their bootstraps to make their businesses, their families, and their communities self-reliant and self-sustaining.

Mary unexpectedly died in her sleep on Friday, July 20th, 2001. While we are deeply saddened by her loss we trust that her positive energy will continue to be felt by all those whose lives she touched directly and indirectly.

In keeping with Mary's vision and in honor of her memory, Thirteen Moons Gallery will continue and move forward as her legacy. Donations may be made in the name of Mary Anhaltzer to the
