Combining
the meticulous hand of the basket maker and the aesthetics
of a sculptor, Charissa’s work reaches beyond both.
Her work brings together objects found in nature: a rock,
a curving twig, small segments of bamboo and precisely sized
matchsticks of apple tree prunings. She stacks, glues, wedges,
knots and develops various systems of construction that reference
landscape or objects from ancient cultures that might be
found on an archeological dig.
