Christine Joy

Christine is inspired by “the cycles of the seasons, always changing and repeating and the ordered movement of a year, the inevitable flow of time from birth to death, mysterious, astonishing, exciting, holding promise and life.” Her muscular, poetic, sculptural baskets appear to be moving. They are fluid, rhythmic twists of branches. Each basket begins with the harvesting of native twigs, willow and cottonwood. “I want my baskets to sit still, unchanging, yet to the eye of the viewer to flow, to move around and back again, to carry the movement of life within its form.”
