Carol Shinn

Her special technique of machine embroidery is derived from a love of drawing. Carol has an extraordinary ability to duplicate scenes realistically using fine threads as her paint. The subject matter in her work ranges from vegetation to trucks; sometimes she layers images or uses fractured images to enhance the fullness of her story. Her stitches, which resemble the intimate touch of pencil hatching, completely cover the canvas. Different colored threads build one upon another to create an incredible dense, rich surface. Carol’s work focuses on the transitory nature of life. “I am fascinated by the way natural forces alter and redefine all things including those made by humans.”
