Fran Skiles’ abstract collages are born from her fascination with various aspects of landscape and nature -- especially bird forms. At the foundation of the work are photographs taken by Fran, digitally altered and printed on canvas. The canvas is then cut, sewn with a French seam, painted and reconstructed. The colors are derived from the subtle richness of the forest and earth. Fran’s sensual and painterly surfaces are achieved by creating multiple veils of transparencies.
