Communication
and the delicate balance of all human relationships are at
the core of Sauer’s work. Her sculptural baskets consist
of thousands of half hitch knots making the structure row
by row. The resulting ridges appear as lines moving around
the form, supporting and elaborating on the nature of the
shape. Color is always central to the idea and reflects the
mood of the piece. “The shapes express tensions, contradictions
and the interplay of the connections in life. My work deals
with the specifics of my own life, but hopefully connects
and resonates my experiences with a wider audience at the
same time.”
