Penny Sisto

Penny Sisto was born and raised in the Orkney Islands off the Northern tip of Scotland. As a health worker for the British Ministry of Overseas Development, she utilized her skills as a midwife in Health Clinics for the Maasai, LuBukusu and Kikuyu tribes of East Africa. These experiences coupled with her passion for the underserved in society, are the subject matter of her art quilts. Combining her many skills in embroidery, appliqué, painting, and quilting, Penny creates rich surfaces that dance with color, energy and texture. She is primarily known for her intense and mysterious ability to capture expression in the face.
